We're Having...??

Today we had our twenty week scan. Not only did we get a head to toe check up of our baby but we also got to find out the sex! So...what are we having??

We're Halfway There - Twenty Weeks!

First I want to wish you all a (belated) Merry Christmas and (early) Happy New Year! We had a fabulous Christmas vacation (of which you will hear more about over on The Traveling Cupcake blog) and we happily celebrated the twenty week mark!

That's right - we're halfway there! Give or take a week or two (hopefully).

I am starting to feel more and more little kicks and punches and flutters. They are still pretty sporadic and usually disappear as quickly as they appear, but I am starting to feel the real difference between the baby dancing around and my stomach rumbling for more food (as it does, ALL the time).

And I know I say this every week - but seriously now, my belly has popped! I swear it gets bigger over  night. I am a week or two away from outgrowing my ski jacket, so hopefully we don't get any snow this winter in London!

Perhaps the most exciting part of this week (besides being bookended by two holiday weekends and a two day work week) is that we are going in for our twenty week scan on Thursday. Which mmeeaaannss that we get to find out if we are having a boy or a girl! Stay tuned for the results later this week :)

Nineteen Weeks

And here we are - week nineteen! I know I say this every week, but I have really popped!

I haven't had any confirmed feelings of the baby moving around yet, but I have started to feel little twinges and flutters that seem to be more like a baby moving around and less like my stomach grumbling because it's hungry. Again.

We are off on our Christmas vacation today, but I will try and post a picture next Sunday for week 20 (and to say MERRY CHRISTMAS!). And in less than two weeks we will have our 20 week scan and get to find out if we are having a boy or a girl! Stay tuned!

Eighteen Weeks

I can't believe that I am at eighteen weeks already! When I first started telling people I was pregnant, someone told me that the first 12 weeks are the slowest. Probably in part to the fact that you feel sick all the time for weeks and you can't tell anyone why. But after that, time flies. She told me, suddenly you look up and realize that you're at 20 weeks! At that time I couldnt imagine being 20 weeks pregnant, it seemed so far away. But now that milestone is less than two weeks away!

It probably doesn't help that we are in the thick of the holiday season. It is just me or does December go by the quickest? Well ok, maybe June/July/August go by just as quickly...but really, I have been so busy with work, buying presents, holiday baking, not to mention taking more kids photos AND getting ready for our Christmas vacation - I'm surprised it's not May already!

Pregnancy Pains

As you know (if you have been pregnant before) or have probably heard (if you have ever known anyone who is/was pregnant) - pregnancy comes with a lot of weird aches and pains and changes in your body. The ones you hear about the most are probably aching backs, sore/swollen feet and stretch marks.

However - (If you have been pregnant before you will know what I mean) - there is a lot more to it than that! Random things start hurting or changing that you never read in any of your pregnancy books. Things like your tailbone start hurting and shooting pains will go through your pelvis and hips at the most random of times.

And if you're like me your belly button will hurt.

Yes, your belly button.

And no, it's NOT connected to the baby.

The first time I ever experienced this I was confused, and surprised! At first it felt sore around my belly button, and I thought it was just my stomach being tender.  When I mentioned something to Brian about it he promptly poked me right in the belly button (thanks hun!) and I screamed in pain! It really hurt! I thought it was a one off thing, one of those weird random growth pains.

But no.

I think this might become a regular occurrence now as it has happened a few times. Sometimes it hurts so bad I have to get up and walk around for a minute just to change positions. I checked with my doctor just to make sure nothing was seriously wrong and she assured me it was perfectly normal.

Normal?? Ok doc, if you say so!

Apparently there is a ligament that runs from your belly button behind your uterus that gets stretched out as your belly grows, which is what causes the tenderness and soreness in your belly button. Ouch!

So for now I am just trying to pay attention to when my belly button feels sore so that it doesn't catch me off guard again. It was fine to scream in my husbands face the first time but random strangers might not like that... :)

Have you had any weird pregnancy pains that they don't tell you about? Leave me a comment I would love to hear about them!

Seventeen Weeks - POP!

Lately I feel like every time I look down, my belly is bigger than the last time I looked. I know that's going to keep happening for, oh ya know, about the next 23 weeks (give or take) but its still a surprise to me every time. When I look in the mirror head on I dont usually notice anything different. But when I catch myself from the side I always stop and stare.

Which is particularly awkward when I'm in the elevator at work and someone gets on and finds me staring at my belly in the reflection.

Seventeen weeks!
